| Ex-Atlantic City mayor pleads guilty
Levy said little during yesterday's hearing before U.S. District Judge Jerome B. Simandle in Camden. He acknowledged under questioning by the judge that he had committed the offense outlined in a one-count federal information that grew out of a plea bargain negotiated by his attorney, Edwin Jacobs Jr. "Bob Levy did an awful lot of right things in his life," Jacobs said on the steps of the federal courthouse after the hearing. "Today he admitted to some things he did wrong." Levy's fall from grace continues a local political trend. He is the fifth of the city's last nine mayors to leave office under a cloud. Levy, 60, stepped down Oct. 10 amid reports that federal authorities were investigating falsehoods in his veterans' benefit claims. He disappeared for about a week prior to his resignation, sparking more rumors and gossip in political and governmental circles.
Groups push to crack down on immigration
Part of the Oklahoma bill makes it illegal to transport illegal aliens. Under the bill, Aguilar said, he could be in trouble for giving a friend a ride to the store, or even for taking someone to the hospital. "If you're going to do illegal immigration, make sure your interpretation is right," Aguilar said. Some other residents are proposing action on a more localized level, including a group in Hurricane that would like to bring the subject to a public forum. During a city council meeting Oct. 16, members of the Citizens Council on Illegal Immigration suggested the city open a dialog on the issue beginning with a public meeting. Douglas Elfving, Hurricane, said the public should be educated on the issue and strides could be made with a simple language addition to city ordinances.
Lott to resign Senate seat effective end of year
The smooth-spoken Lott found himself in hot water in December 2002 after going too far in his praise of Thurmond at the South Carolinian's 100th birthday party. Lott said Mississippi voters were proud to have supported Thurmond when he ran for president on a segregationist platform in 1948, and added: "If the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years either." A few days later, Lott issued a statement saying he had made "a poor choice of words" that "conveyed to some the impression that I embraced the discarded policies of the past. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I apologize to anyone who was offended by my statement." But the damage was done. President Bush distanced himself from Lott's remarks, telling an audience the comments "do not reflect the spirit of our country." Lott then made a round of public appearances, apologizing for his gaffe.
Obama camp: We won
On top of all the initial confusion, I heard that you all did not have the proper facilities to accomodate the surge of royal OBAMA supporters. Yeah, I got the low down on all you rootin-tootin cowboys and girls. Even way across in South Carolina. I heard that because of the shitty facilities you all provided for all of my loyal OBAMA supporters, that thousands of them got frustrated and left. That's a shame!! All of those game-changing votes that could not be cast. Subtract that, and OBAMA would have blew her a*s outta the water!!! Thanx a lot you a******s. And in terms of whining candidates, PLEASE, DON'T EVEN GO THERE!!!!! Any haters, email me. jayrock_thareelest@yahoo.com I'm Jonathan Williams and I appove this message!!!!!!!! .
The Hanging Church
The Holy Family is then said to have traveled back to Old Cairo, across Sinai and back to Palestine. The Monastic Craze Religious scholars agree Egypt was the birthplace of Christian monasticism, which spread to the rest of Christendom. In Sinai, the Coptic monasteries of St. Anthony (Deir Mar Antonios, fourth century) and St. Paul (Deir Mar Boulos, fifth century) are the oldest in the world. Located in the cliffs of Gebel Al-Galala Al-Qibliya, they are accessible from Zaafarana. They're open to visitors during the day and you can hike between the two, if you have a guide and the stamina. You can stay overnight at St. Paul's guesthouse, with permission from its residence in Cairo (tel: (02) 590-0218). St. Paul is known as the first Christian hermit and St. Anthony is credited for founding and spreading monasticism.
