My wish list is a stopover on the inbound and outbound journeys, with hotels, and to be able to see the Great Barrier Reef.Dolly Silvester, by email There are two A380s in commercial service, both operated by Singapore Airlines, flying daily between Singapore and Sydney. From 18 March Singapore Airlines A380s will also fly Heathrow to Singapore. Currently it costs no more to fly economy class in the A380 than on one of their other planes, but supplements do apply for business class. It is hard to get seats for the A380 flights from London and Singapore, so you'll need to be flexible with dates. There is availability, for example, on 7 September to Sydney and returning from Sydney on the 28th. With a stopover each way in Singapore the fare would be £969 with Austravel (0844 412 4620; austravel.com).

Stanford center goes to press to battle poverty
Grusky says Pathways magazine will be able to participate in what he calls a "smart" war on poverty, since there is increasingly more and better data due to breakthroughs in computing, information analysis and data retrieval. "We know what works," he said, "and what doesn't." Based on the data, there is some agreement about what succeeds, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, which benefits lower-income workers. Among the programs widely considered to have failed are inner-city housing projects, which have only further marginalized the poor. Grusky, 49, a third-generation sociologist, grew up in Los Angeles, where his father has long taught organizational sociology at UCLA. His grandfather was a professor of sociology at Harvard University. He had no intention of following in their footsteps when he went off to Reed College in Portland, Ore.
No Mercy for buyers as East Melbourne lands $18.2m apartment
THE $18.2 million sale of a massive penthouse in East Melbourne's Mercy Hospital development has set a record for Victorian property and a new benchmark for apartment prices in Australia. A Sydney-based businessman has bought two adjoining apartments on the 11th floor of the nearly completed building, with plans to merge them into one opulent residence overlooking Fitzroy Gardens. The penthouse will be built to the owner's specifications and, with about 958 square metres of internal space, will be almost four times the size of an average Victorian home. The sale is believed to have taken place late last year. As housing affordability plummets to a 22-year low, offthe- plan apartment sales in the 150 Clarendon Street development have averaged more than $4.5 million.
Final UL president candidates answers questions
Interviews for UL's next president began Monday and continue today, but the question-and-answer sessions aren't the end-all, be-all in choosing a new president, advised UL System's search consultant. "The interview is the least valid predictor of performance," said James Fisher, the system's search consultant. "... The way to find a leader is to find a leader and that's only done through referencing." .

Hertz UAE launches last minute online deals
Car rental users can take advantage of a last minute offer on selected vehicles at www.hertzuae.com, and rather than pay over the odds, as usually happens when there is no time to book in advance, prices are attractively low. The deal changes each day, so customers are encouraged to regularly check the website. Bob Farrow, General Manager at Hertz UAE, said, 'We know that spur of the moment weekend trips are synonymous with the adventurous and spontaneous people who live in Dubai and the UAE. 'But these impulse holidays are often hindered by high last minute prices. The Deal of the Day is specifically aimed at people who only want to rent a car for between one and three days and they don't get hit with extra charges.' .
