| Here lies a dumb idea
It didn't take Fox News long to post Monday's Chronicle story on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors' latest dumb idea. As Phil Matier and Andrew Ross reported, a board-approved resolution has urged the city's Department of Public Works to approve a project to install bronze plaques on city sidewalks to memorialize homeless people who died on the street. The resolution was passed unanimously - even if the supervisors seem to have forgotten why they supported it. Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, a co-sponsor, told Matier and Ross he did not know much about the project. Board President Aaron Peskin could not recall the measure. Supervisor Chris Daly did not respond to our request for comment. On the plus side, taxpayers would not be saddled with the expense of the plaques, which would be placed throughout South of Market, Haight-Ashbury and the Western Addition.
Memoirs of Meth Addiction from a Father and a Son
Howdy Pop, God, I miss you guys so much. I can't wait to see you all. Only one more day!!! Woo-hoo." Nic is emailing from college on the evening before he arrives home for summer vacation. Jasper and Daisy, our eight- and five-year- olds, are sitting at the kitchen table cutting, pasting, and coloring notes and welcome-home banners for his homecoming. They have not seen their big brother in six months. In the morning, when it's time to leave for the airport, I go outside to round them up. Daisy, wet and muddy, is perched on a branch high up in a maple tree. Jasper stands below her. "You give me that back or else!" he warns. "No," she responds. "It's mine." There is bold defiance in her eyes, but then, when he starts to climb up the tree, she throws down the Gandalf doll he's after.
Wisconsin Sports Spectacular
I haven't seen many Pro Bowl trip packages to Hawaii advertised by travel agents lately. That's because they don't really exist. Every time I have seen the Pro Bowl, there are a lot of empty seats. It's just not a good game for the reasons mentioned above. That's why there isn't any juice to it, and then you take the star power out of it? That really makes it irrelevant. I think that they should just name the team, and not bother with playing the game. Name the players that made the team, give them their bonus checks and move on. The game is pointless for the players and the fans. There isn't an AP All-American game for the college players as far as I know. So the system of just naming the Pro Bowlers and not actually having a Pro Bowl would be a lot like that. If they are going to keep the game, there are 2 things I think they should do to improve it.

For church goers: less money to insur. companies and more to the church- lots more. Srs on Medicare: save way over $100/wk. Because no more medigap, long term care & dental insur. needed. No more drug bills." But if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our current politicians to get HR 676 passed into law before the elections. We will have to identify, and replace all the politicians standing in the way of passage of HR 676. And, I think the best first place to start is with the politicians that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bills for the kids. Passed by congress twice. But what about the President. It was Bush after all that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bill passed by congress to assure more health coverage for Americas kids. So which of the presidential hopefuls do I think will be most supportive of implementing the demand of the majority of the American people to have HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law immediately! We have some very fine presidential candidates who would make good presidents.
Van Halen show at First Mariner Arena postponed
Upcoming shows in Dallas, Cincinnati and Raleigh, N.C., have also been rescheduled. A news release issued Monday from promoter Live Nation Inc. (NYSE:LYV) cited guitarist Eddie Van Halen's undisclosed medical conditions as the reason for the postponement. Eddie Van Halen "is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures," the statement read. Guitar virtuoso Eddie Van Halen and his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen, reunited with original lead singer David Lee Roth for a tour that kicked off in September. Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang, is rounding out the lineup on bass, replacing original member Michael Anthony. Landing the gig is the latest coup for the downtown arena's management, Philadelphia-based SMG, which since 2005 has brought the Rolling Stones, Guns N' Roses, the Miss USA pageant and Christina Aguilera to the 45-year-old facility, which holds 12,000 people.
Oregon beachside villagers clash over strip club
One young mother from Tillamook gathers her five children and drives 2 scenic miles to go beachcombing at a quaint hideaway off Highway 101. Another Tillamook mother slips into a black gown and drives to the same town to dance at the only exotic club on the northern Oregon coast - the Anchor Inn and Grill. They, along with strip-club patrons, visiting families, longtime residents and retirees, mix it up in this quiet community. Dependent on vacation rentals and tourists, pint-size Oceanside - population 326 - sustains one cafe, one coffee shop, one nude adult entertainment venue and lots of feuding citizens. For the past three years, a dispute over growth and development has divided the community. Angry neighbors boycotted the Anchor because it expanded.

Not because he doesn't want to talk. Magedson loves talking, especially when the subject is his beloved Web site. It's just that he's so incredibly particular. Arranging one simple meeting is an exercise that captures, perfectly, why Magedson is so good at getting results and why he's infuriated the CEOs of several midsize companies to the point that they accuse him, flatly, of extortion. He overthinks every detail. And it would never occur to him to stop pushing before he gets what he wants, even if he's not sure what that is. First there's where to meet. It has to be a public place. A dog park? A restaurant? Even after Magedson decides on lunch at Chompie's, he calls back with instructions about which bank of booths to pick. He's planning to park in the handicapped spot, he says, and from the right booth, he'll be able to keep an eye on his dog.
